First they lure us with mind games then they serve non-stop comedy. Seriously, just how awesome can this show get?!
I’m not kidding when I say that almost 15 minutes worth of this episode made me laugh. The Janken part was stimulating enough (ugh, probabilities!) yet the transition to comedy was quite discreet you would even forget all about that serious part of the game.
And we have to give Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Hikasa Youko due credit. Without them going full retard, this episode won’t probably be as funny. No offense to Ai Kayano, we all know she did her role as Shiro but those two really carried the comedic aspect like the pros that they are.
And it’s not just the way Matsuoka and Hikasa acted their roles, but how they are able to add vocal effects that emphasize the mood. Like when Steph gasped “HUH” after Sora asked her to fall for him. Or when Sora made those wheezing sounds as he tumble rolled to prostrate before Shiro. Those minor details became immensely noticeable, at that moment that it added to the comedic value of the episode. And to great effect.
I was quite skeptical with the animation quality since it felt too colorful (which may equate itself to eye cancer of sorts) but after watching this episode, I can’t help but notice how flexible that quality is when transitioning from Sora’s badass mode to the comedic nature of the series. It somehow sets in and blends itself with the flow of the story.
After that interesting take on Janken and that comedic breather, I’m hoping for more gimmicky games and fucked up personalities next episode. I wonder how much more can this series offer us?
