After this episode, I feel that I was able to understand why Hachiman was pissed off at himself for expecting something at Yukino because, to be honest, this episode did betray my opinion of her.
While there’s nothing wrong with doing everything by yourself, there’s a difference when one does it for the wrong reasons. If I were to assume what Yukinoshita did, it would be a means of running away from her own problems. That being the awkwardness between her and Hachiman due to the big reveal, a few episodes ago.
That or perhaps, Yukino wanted to best her sister who became a chairman by making the festival successful while just being an aide. With the latter excuse being something quite out of her character.
Yukino claims to see herself as someone who is gifted yet gets rejected by the people around her. The issue however, is how her image crumbles by just a comparison between her and her sister.
I’m not saying every ideal should be consistent but seeing a character falter does destroy expectations. A person’s faith on another is easily challenged if that individual goes out of the norm, the norm being whatever image the believer placed on. And that’s exactly what Yukinoshita did to Hachiman and to me, the viewer.
Aside from that, Yukino’s philanthropy in helping others became a form of spoon-feeding in this episode. In the previous requests, her approach was to develop the individual to become someone competent enough to get things done by themselves.
But to “tank” for Minami and her duties while the other slacks off is definitely a proof of Yukino’s betrayal to me, the audience.
Establishing a strong character early on that begins to fuck up and lose focus is a great way to rile up viewers. It is quite an effective marketing strategy to sell any series, or character, for that matter. But it does not deny the fact that I am disappointed at Yukinoshita and how she’s messing up. If anything, I wonder how Hikki plans on interfering and pulling Yukinoshit out of the mess she made since, as Hayato mentions it, it won’t be long before this farce comes crashing down.
