Winter Anime 2013

all rights reserved to the creator of the chart

Finally took time to read what winter had to offer so it’s time to decide this season’s expectations.

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru

Seeing Tamura Yukari in the list and remembering how “cheeky” her character was (in the manga) made me want to watch this series. Besides, the art looks catchy.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

It’s SHAFT… nuf said.

Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru sou Desu yo?

Will probably watch this for Tohsaka Rin (voiced by a new seiyuu that looks like Japanese but the name says otherwise… whatever!!)

Senran Kagura

Seiyuu trap with clothes destruction…. Tempting indeed… (Undecided)

ZKC: Unlimited

I wonder if this will have much bloodshed than what ZKC could offer. The character designs disturb me though.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha

FukuJun, Ami Koshimizu, and stuff about wars and its impact. Read the manga and found it was interesting so why not?

AMNESIA

This gives off strong Arcana Famiglia vibes so I’m uncertain whether to watch this or not.

Tamako Market

Will KyoAni’s lucky streak continue after Hyouka and Chu2Koi?

Vividred Operation

Finally saw the trailers and… ffs, X was right! Strike Witches anyone? Not sure to pick this but… hmmm… fuck… We’ll see.

Haganai NEXT

I’m watching this for the loli…

And that probably wraps it up. As with my previous attempts on watching new anime based on the season, feel free to drop by and suggest anything you might find interesting.

Tohsaka Rin ^^; ? Well, I’ll probably watch this series as long as it’s interesting enough :p. Is there a shorter name for this one? XD

Judging from the preview, Amnesia seem closer to “Hiiro no Kakera” than “Arcana Famiglia”. I didn’t watch “Hiiro no Kakera” (I only watched the preview) and I’ll probably won’t watch Amnesia, but I suspect this will easily turn out better than “Arcana Famiglia” :p.

Right now, what I’m looking forward to most are the last four episodes of Kokoro Connect and the four episodes of Nekomonogatari Black :p.

Kokoro Connect ep14 to ep17 was simply too fast :p (though there’s a chance many would complain it being too slow if they went at the pace I would like it XD). Otherwise this was really good in my opinion. I doubt there’s any chance for another season (and the manga doesn’t look all that good either :p), so now just waiting for the novels to get translated :).

Well, she does look like Tohsaka Rin :p

Currently dl’ing rori’s Kokoro Connect and Commie’s Nekomonogatari. I’m quite stuck with the last episode of Jormungand since gg dropped the shit and Horrible has no ep 24 yet (nothing against Asenshi but I’m skeptical with the quality)

Hmm… Gonna steel myself and watch perhaps only Senran Kagura, all the while beating my own head with a big fat schtick until the end. Not for the seiyuu trap and neither is it for guilty pleasure but for the dumbass reason of following conversations and discussions elsewhere. orz

I’d expect Horrible to get to Jormungand ep24 by end of this week.

Nekomonogatari Black “ep1” was what I expected ^^;. The pacing was much faster than I’d like, but still good. Watching this reminds me that Medaka Box just doesn’t satisfy my craving for the wordplay found in the Monogatari series :p. Now waiting impatiently for “episode two” XD.

New five minutes or less per-episode animes this season:
    – Boku no Imouto wa Osaka Okan : A show about the Osaka dialect :p? Kana Asumi playing an Osaka girl. Ryoko Shiraishi (Hayate? XD) as her brother. Yuka Iguchi is also listed. Flash anime OTL.
    – Yama no Susume : Mountain climbing anyone :p? Yuka Iguchi playing the main character. Kana Asumi as the genki friend. Youko Hikasa and Yui Ogura are also listed. Wish they made this longer ^^;.
    – Mangirl : A group of girls starting a manga magazine. Main cast are Ayaka Ohashi, Kanako Miyamoto, Moemi Otaka and Yuri Komagata. Also listed Ai Kayano, Aoi Yuuki, Ayana Taketatsu and Eri Kitamura. Looks okay so far, but nothing exceptional.
    – Puchimas: Yet another IM@S thingy (adapted from a manga I think). The usual IM@S cast. Looks better than I expected (at least the eyes are not as scary as I thought) :p.

    – Ai Mai Mi: Random jokes. Reminds me of Teekyu from last season ^^;. Main cast seem to be some seiyuus from YuruYuri, though the comedy here cannot compare with YuruYuri. Quality is better than Teekyu at least, but that’s not saying much OTL.

Well, so far no aliens in the first episode XD. There could be I guess, but I didn’t check the manga :p.

Cuticle Tantei Inaba ep1: Fast paced. Random. Comedy heavy. Reminds me of Yondemasuyo Azazel-san, except it feels a lot less vulgar :p. It gets me curious enough for now, but I do wonder how long this will be able to keep my attention.

Ishida and Asakura ep1: Two minutes. Not sure what to make of this comedy, but I’m not really interested ^^;. I might check out the second episode to see if it gets better, but with too many to watch this season, I might just forget about it :p.

Minami-ke Tadaima: Not much different from what I remember from the manga. Might watch for a few laughs, but definitely very very very low priority for me.

With all the anime continuing from last season resuming, I’m starting to find myself having trouble keeping up with them while taking a look at the new anime that are just starting. This is going to get worst next Friday and Saturday ^^;. So far, none of the new anime seem exceptional, but there are more to come, and some anime might take a few more episodes before they shine :p.

Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman: Really really fast paced. Comedy. Action movie like :p. Not the most original story, but quality wise turn out better than I thought ^^;.

Forgot to mention that this is rather campy :p. Feels like I’m reading City Hunter (I never watched the anime) or something, but with much worst writing, and rather tame jokes comparatively. I was expecting worst :p. No idea yet if I want to watch more of this, but for now I’ll probably have a look at the second episode.

So far, none of the new anime grabbed my attention like the continuing anime ^^;:
    – Bakuman s3 ep14: Going into a more interesting and fun arc.
    – Little Busters ep13: Starting to see more of the Key VN style plots :p. Not my favourite, but it’s different from most other series.
    – Uchuu Kyodai ep40: Getting more exciting.
    – Magi ep13: I can’t see myself dropping this any more T_T. It’s just good XD. I shouldn’t have watch this episode if I really wanted to drop this :p.
    – Ixion Saga DT ep13: Adventure/Comedy continues.
    – Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo ep13: Sorata no baka! :p This just gets better and better.

JCStaff animes seem to be doing better than I thought in terms of quality. Though it’s hard to say this will last to the end of the season as we are only at the beginning :p.

Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun: Another one that feels way too fast paced. Shoujo manga story with a male protagonist. Oni adventure story. Could be interesting. Due to the pacing, it probably will be a bit confusing if one isn’t familiar with the concepts used in this anime. I’m not so keen on almost everything about this one :p (shoujo manga art, oni stuff, rushed feel, … etc.). I think I won’t be watching any more of this :p.

Senyu: Another five minute or less per-episode thingy. Simple story. Simple art. RPG setting. RPG and otaku jokes. Seems okay to watch.

Da Capo III: After getting it recommended by a friend, I decided to check this out. First episode looks better than I expected. There’s the usual romance VN stuff of course :p. Not much introduction is given for the characters. Parts of this reminds me of Seitokai no Ichizon ^^;. I’ll probably watch until episode three before deciding if I will continue, though I’m picking up too many anime yet again OTL

GJ-Bu: Yet another school anime with one guy and a bunch of girls doing nothing but joke around. The jokes tend to drag out as well ^^;. I’ll probably watch this only if I have nothing else to watch :p.

Kotoura-san: This one is special. At the very least, the first episode is definitely worth watching. Not going to say more, as I would spoil it ^^;. Sigh, too many anime on Fridays :p.

Finally gave in and watched the first two episodes of Vividred Operation ;). It’s exactly what we expected after watching the promo video XD. Well, other than that factor, it’s pretty good. The story isn’t anything worth mentioning :p, but I doubt anybody willing to watch this really cares ^^;.

I’m really watching too many anime again this season OTL.

er… you’re not going to suggest Vivid Red right? I mean, sure Symphogear was surprisingly… decent but… er… Strike Witches and gattai??

    @baka~

After three episodes, I’d say that despite the “Strike Witches and gattai”, This is actually a more entertaining than I thought ^^;. Story so far is very simple, straightforward and predictable. Definitely no twists (so far) like in Symphogear :p, but it’s good enough I think. Comedy is decent, though typical. The art and animation is above average, making it pleasant to watch, with no distracting quality drops so far. Pacing is on the fast side, but it seems well timed even after three episodes. I found the non-battle (slice of life style) scenes amusing enough to watch on their own XD. This all despite my face palming (and laughing) whenever the ridiculous battle action starts.

Of course all this might change later. The show is still in the introductory phase. There’s one more character in the main cast not formally introduced (expecting that in the next episode), and the enemy is not formally introduced either (probably the episode after the next?). I wouldn’t exactly “recommend” this, but it’s probably my favourite guilty pleasure anime of the season so far :p, instead of Senran Kagura as I originally anticipated. Though having a Chihaya like “shinobi” (from IM@S, same seiyuu ^^;) in Senran Kagura is pretty amusing as well XD.

I have to admit, the character designs and the transformation scenes I’ve been seeing over various sites about Vivid Red is quite the eye candy but I’m still having doubts OTL

I’m starting to think of Vividred as a parody of those colour coded sentai shows and a mix of mahou shoujo shows with a Strike Witches flavour :p. After four episodes, the pacing is still a bit too fast ^^;, and the action keeps coming. Still fun, though there are many times I wish it wasn’t so rushed. Now I’m wondering if they will make spin-offs XD.
