Deus Ex Mac-HINA

Hina used MOE

This show feels as if it’s taking Hina’s ability to mind control people for granted. Not only did they exploit this by getting discounts and freebies from the people who encounter Hina, they also managed to quell the landlady’s bitchiness. I guess I’m just a pessimistic individual to actually believe that such kind of magic exist: “Innocent Charm” – The ability of lolis to sway people with gratuitous amounts of moe.

Again, comparing it with Usagi Drop, even though Rin IS STILL on the same level of “moe” with Hina (even though they are both drawn differently), the fact that the series never exploited such feat to abuse Innocent Charm, emphasizing on the grave situation that Daikichi had to face still trumps over PapaKiki, realistically speaking.

I mean, over the past episodes, we’ve seen how Yuuta has been struggling hard. I admire him for this but we have to face facts here. With his nieces starting school and college about to restart for him, how will he be able to find time to work for a living? One practical solution of this would be when Yuuta decides to venture into a small-time business that is manageable even while he’s studying but what? Having to rely on convenient plot-devices, alleviating Yuuta of his labor through miracles simply leaves a bad aftertaste.

To be honest, even though PapaKiki is an inviting harem anime thanks to its gorgeous art, the fact that this tackles a sensitive issue concerning “family” makes me see it differently and I don’t want it to turn out into something cheap, excusing itself of the protagonist’s troubles just by using the beautiful and cute nieces.

Heh, this entire episode was not in the novels at all I think (even the landlady was never really mentioned until later iirc). I doubt Hina will be able to magically “solve” everything thrown at them. The other two girls seem more likely to get in trouble with their “moe” than solve problems :p. Though I personally wouldn’t take this story too seriously.

I think it’s nice for Yuuta to actually have his share of problems that could break unlucky individuals but as I said, exploiting Hina to this extent is pretty much meh. So much for the effort of showing how dire Yuuta’s situation is.

Well, if you watch this show to enjoy how much Yuuta is suffering, forget it :p. The way I see it, he is a lucky bastard who don’t know how good he has it despite his situation. Other than what happened to his sister, I don’t think we will ever see any real threat actually cause serious problems for them in this story (other than maybe the girls having more angst).
