First Impressions: Nisemonogatari

I really enjoyed Bakemonogatari so I really had high hopes for this anime and for its episode 1 pilot, I have to say that it went beyond expectations.

Not wasting any time for reintroduction, we caught a glimpse of Araragi’s sisters in detail considering how they were at the sidelines back in Bakemonogatari but what I really like in this episode was Araragi’s conversation with Hachikuji. Well, praising Koyomi for his lolicon antics and enjoying Mayoi’s reaction to his attacks, I never expected Araragi to suddenly let his emotional worries slip, first, with his family concerning his secret of being a vampire, and the other, being Oshino Meme’s farewell back in Bakemonogatari. With no one to rely on when it comes to the supernatural, I guess Koyomi is practically on his own for this season and considering how the weird and bizaare seem to attract him, along with this episode’s title, Karen Bee, it seems that Koyomi will be getting his hands full over the next episodes.

That said, I never expected Hachikuji to give such mature advice, I guess it goes that in anime, most child-like appearances may, in fact, contains an ounce of Yoda’s wisdom. Then again, Mayoi has been dead for awhile and, much like Oshino Shinobu, her age is on a totally different setting.

Again, this show really is awesome. For a first episode, it came down and slammed in a hard, good impression; The seiyuu cast is a powerful bunch of pros, the animation is eye-candy, the content has substance, and the antics, very much entertaining. Without a doubt, this is one series to absolutely watch this season.

Agreed, this episode was more than I anticipated (and I had really high expectations XD). Really missed the wordplay from Bakemonogatari. This looks like it will be a lot of fun to watch. Couldn’t resist rewatching it twice XD.

Sure… I’m guessing you simply rewatched the whole of Araragi’s conversation with Hachikuji ❤

Yeah, had to rewatch the whole conversation (rewatched it a few more times from start to finish a little while later :p). The earlier conversations were interesting as well. It’s fun listening to intelligent conversation intersperse with wordplay (I enjoy wordplay a lot! XD) and Araragi’s inner thoughts while the story slowly unfolds itself.

I get the impression that Hachikuji is the only character that Araragi can be completely comfortable with. The interactions with her was quite the contrast compared to Araragi’s interactions with the other characters, since he doesn’t have to hold back or be on guard. She is like his best friend whom he trust completely, and he can talk to her just about anything he wants to without a care. Yet, she is a ghost whom he meets only once in a long while.
