The Iskander Show

Why don’t we just dub this series as the Iskander Show?

In reality, I hate assholes. They always jump in, crashing the party or whatever decent conversation you’re having with, let’s say, your group of friends and simply acts like one annoying motherfucking douche, fitting to be called as an asshole. Iskander is such a kind of asshole but I really love this guy. He spoils the fun and he has so many logical reasons for it:

1) he spoils saber vs lancer

reason: he wants to make them his friends and SHARE THE GRAIL WITH THEM (awwwwwww)

Make love not war! This guys inspires a lot of mot posts

No seriously, this makes sense. If the grail is one almighty device, can;t it grant all their wishes if they shared it? Iskander may be naive in this, he may even be childish, but what he said is the right thing to do.

2) he spoils Kayneth’s mindfuck against waver

reason: he hates wusses who hides in shadows

I was shouting “UP YOURS DOUCHEBAG!!” the moment Iskander criticizes his “would-be” master and oddly enough, he made sense about Waver. Sure, Waver is another douche. He whines 24/7, acts high and mighty, but you have to admit it, he maintains friendly relations with Iskander, never forcing him to bend to his will. He also rides with him despite his fears and , most importantly, his reason for joining the war is as valid as it gets; He’s there to prove that it’s not about lineage, it’s about talent and hard work that one can become a good magi.

3) he spoils Berserker’s fun

reason: … A ray of kindness perhaps?

I guess he really liked Saber x Lancer fight and would not accept if either of them gets killed by some other douche.

4) he spoils Kayneth’s fun

reason: he restored Lancer’s honor

Seriously, I feel sorry for Lancer to have such a dick-headed master. From his way of speaking, he really values whoever his master is, even swearing to give to him the Holy Grail but what Kayneth did was unforgivable. He robbed him of his honor as a knight who’s simply having fun fighting one of the most powerful characters in history. How fucking annoying is that?! Kiritsugu should’ve canned the bastard!

FUCK YOU DOUCHEBAG!!

Again, Iskander won in this round, threatening and pissing off Kayneth with just his words. I think it would’ve been better if Lancer died in this episode. Having him die with the remaining honor he had is much better than the thought of how Kayneth would force him to do things he doesn’t want to.

As for the animation, I seriously loved Berserker’s design as well as his fights. The black aura with red Gundam-like eyes or whatever is so fucking badass and the fact that he was able to hold his ground and piss off Gilgamesh is pretty much amazing! Though, are all Berserker classes really that mana-consumptive when they are called? It’s not just Ilya from Fate/Stay but even Kariya is having trouble controlling him. Not to forget, his raison d’etre for doing so is to save Sakura. How GAR can he get? I seriously hope he gets to kill Tokiomi.

I love Saber's smile in this scene. It's as if she's encountered an amusing retard 😀

    Don’t we all love GAR morons? In short, Iskandar will always be the most awesome character in this series for me. 😀

    Anyway, I really have to sympathize with Lancer for having a master with no balls like Kayneth and it’s even worse, given Lancer’s real identity, that he’s in the situation he’s in with regards to his loyalty to his master. As much as I want to pity Lancer over how he’s treated, it annoys me that his sense of loyalty is so prevailing he prioritizes Kayneth above all else despite Kayneth’s apparent distrust and abuse of him. Oh well, that’s who Lancer is though.

    Yes, this is usually the case with the Berserker class but this particular Berserker is in a different league from Ilya’s Berserker. There are two reasons for Kariya having problems controlling him:
    1) (One of) Berserker’s Noble Phantasm – This thing is SICK. Sick in the imba sense, and due to its ability, it demands a much greater level of mana (a few times more than the other servants’ Noble Phantasms) from the master for materialization and use.
    2) Kariya isn’t as adept as the other mages to begin with, and he’s already weak from the torture he underwent before. His body is also currently deteriorating, probably one of the more noticeable forms of handicap for Berserker in terms of mana supply and the reason why Berserker’s existence is somewhat unstable in itself.

    Hmm… I guess I won’t say any more than that to avoid spoiling. 😀

      Oh yeah, probably to complement Point #1:
      This particular Berserker kept the Mad Enhancement ability activated whereby his sanity has to be traded/compensated for a boost in power (this power boost is very much needed for that sick Nobel Phantasm he used in this episode). If the master lacks sufficient mana to keep a balance between Berserker’s sanity and power, it will contribute to the difficulty to control and maintain Berserker’s existence. This is also one of the reasons why Kariya is always in great suffering in this war.

    @feal

    that’s how cool guys roll 😀

    @Keiri

    So in a way, Berserker is just like Kariya. Both of them requires great control to keep themselves sane (with Kariya being Sakura as his drive), gave up something in order to gain power (Kariya – his body, Berserker – his sanity) and failing to manage their respective balance would result in their disappearance.

    But curious over Berserker’s abilities, does all of it require such amount of mana all the time? I mean, iirc, Fate/Stay Night already explained these mechanics but it feels as if Berserker is constantly a special case servant. =|

      Actually for this particular Berserker, the class and Mad Enhancement ability was forced upon him during the summoning so in a way, he did not willingly give up his sanity to gain power (Although he did become insane in his past life hence the reason why he was suitable for the Berserker class. Also, his insanity wasn’t caused by his desire for power but rather it was a consequence brought about by his own actions and the actions of those around him). Still, despite the class being forced upon him, Berserker chose to keep Mad Enhancement, not because he wanted the power boost in exchange for his sanity but rather his decision pertains to the emotions he carried over from his past life. 😉

      Hmm… It’s been a long while since I’ve touched Fate/stay night’s story so I can’t really remember what info was detailed there wrt the Berserker class but as far as I’m aware, the Berserker class is considered a normal Servant class (as opposed to the Knight classes for example) which are meant for mages who summoned spirits that have insufficient stats compared to the others. To compensate for that, this class allows the Masters to boost their Servants’ stats to the level of a Heroic Spirit or even surpass the level of a Heroic Spirit. This was what Zouken meant in Episode 1 about “picking a class of Servant that can raise those parameters” (the base stats of the Servant). I guess this abuse in the system is what makes the Berserker a special case since it gives the Servant the potential to become the most powerful of the Servant classes if the class is exploited in the right way. The price that the Master has to pay for this is the large amount of mana needed to maintain Berserker’s existence as well as their powers. And as we know about the Mad Enhancement ability, sanity has to be traded for the power boost which consequently makes the Servant difficult to maintain and control due to their insanity and large consumption of mana. The more powerful the Servant, the more difficult to maintain and control. It’s worse for a weaker mage like Kariya because he has to depend on the worms in his body to provide mana to Berserker and every time Berserker uses loads of mana for his existence and abilities, the worms start eating at Kariya, destroying him from inside out.

      @ X

      If berserker had more people supplying mana, wouldn’t he be pretty much invincible?

      Frighteningly powerful probably, assuming the Servant has a Master who has an unlimited supply of mana and has the ability to maintain the Servant’s sanity within reasonable control. It also depends on who the Heroic Spirit is and what Noble Phantasms he/she is bestowed with. I imagine if the Berserker in Fate/Zero has a very powerful Master with unlimited mana, he would be pretty hax.

    Heh, Iskander is pissing off most if not all the masters. I wonder how long before someone will target Waver to stop him from interfering with their plans.

    If berserker had more people supplying mana, wouldn’t he be pretty much invincible? This is still my favorite anime this season. Can’t imagine that I started to watch this only for Rin XD.

    Glad someone other than me likes the way they animate Berserker. IMO i think the berserker this time is way better than the one on FSN don’t you think so? In terms of coolness and capability. Coz the one on FSN couldn’t even fend off Gilgamesh’s rain of swords. Yeah..hope he gets to kill Tokiomi XD

    @Ryo

    Zero’s Berserker is a lot cooler than Night’s, not just with his agility and strength to go toe to toe with Gilgamesh but how he simply emits that black aura of badassery. Let’s face it, it’s much scary to have a dark abyss-like being run after you than an obvious 10-wheeler truck x_x
