Leaving all Hope

This is the last straw! No, seriously! This should’ve been one of the BEST OVA of Kaminomi except for the fact that they really took out the real important parts from the source chapter. What the fuck I’m talking about?

Covering chapters 54 and 55 of the manga, what seems to be a nonsense chapter of forming a band is actually a fucking hint of the better things to come in Kaminomi. The events that SHOULD’VE BEEN ANIMATED is a major hint concerning the main plot of this series. So yeah, imagine how I badly wanted to flip tables after expecting the above scene to happen but didn’t. And not to mention…

Kodama IS an asshole but he gives keima the respect he deserves. For a side character whose only character development rests in THIS CHAPTER ALONE, how fucking annoying it is to shed more light to his personality?! SO HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! HOW IN GAMING GOD’s NAME DID THIS ADAPTATION FUCK UP?!

This OVA is just like a baaaaad dream

I think they tried too hard on the K-ON thing (I heard Wakaki might have something to do with that sadly :p), and maybe tried to make the dialogues smoother (maybe to make Elsie look less stupid and her learning more credible?). Not sure what they were trying to do honestly, but Wakaki was involved in the production. If you look at what was written on the blackboard, you might notice that they took some of the material used for the Hayate movie they were doing at the same time and translated it into English.

It seems like this sold pretty well (of course with the amount of promotions they were doing, I’m not that surprised), will see if they do a third season.

I’m hoping for a third season, but with this OVA, i don’t think it’ll happen. As for the OVA itself, I thought it was pretty good. I kept scratching my head when reading the English sentences (they made sense, but I’m still trying to figure out why they would put sentences about a guy named Luca getting his cornea operated).

Anyhow, the more KamiNomi, the better. Here’s hoping that the stealth-inclusion of a never-before animated character is a sign that a new season is on the way.

Honestly, I think this OVA was done only for the fans (though personally, I felt they messed up a few parts). I have a feeling that they would be looking more at season two sales and other merchandising sales than this particular OVA when thinking about a season three. This was sold bundled with the manga volume. For the publisher it’s probably more like a small measure of how many manga fans would be interested in the anime, and give Wakaki something to promote to the manga fans.

I’ve heard from two sources that it sold pretty well, they are still having events to promote kaminomi stuff next month (Kanon events and stuff). The last DVD/BD for season two will probably come out in December. They still have at least one more character song CD album to release.

I think Luca (sometimes spelled Ruka) is the super talented female idol from Hayate the Combat Butler manga/anime. The text is probably something related to the anime movie “Hayate the Combat Butler! Heaven is a Place on Earth”, since the movie was done around the same time as this OVA by the same studio.

Of course! How could I miss the Hayate references!

I agree with the sentiment that the OVA was made almost exclusively for fans. This came packaged with a manga volume, so most of the people who will buy this will have already known about Yui.

Well, this OVA is more or less decent. What I didn’t like was how they left the really juicy bits out of the story. Not to mention they spoiled Yui despite the band recruiting for a drummer. Inconsistency much? I bet X_X

Yeah, that was the problem. Leaving that part out and I would have put Keima as the drummer. I mean, most of those who bought this have read the manga and would have gotten the joke. It would have made more sense. Spoiling Yui like this feels like they just wanted to throw her in there just to make the fans happy thinking they won’t ever get to her story. It’s probably true for this team, since they disbanded.

    I don’t recall the band disbanding =/

I doubt the spoiling is such a big deal since I bet most watchers don’t even know who that is.

That’s the whole point. Not knowing who that is. Seeing her in male uniform is a huge spoiler in my opinion since that takes away a huge part of the surprise factor. You have to imagine what it would be like if they ever animate her arc.

Of course, in my opinion the last episode of the second season spoiled it as well to a certain extent with Tenri’s appearance and her reflection. To me, this just shows that they not only have no plans to animate more seasons, they feel that they have to throw whatever they have for the sake of the fans because they are pretty confident that there will be no new season since their team disbanded.

For those who look forward to more episodes, it is a spoiler. Unless, of course, you knew that there will be no more new episodes.

While Valence does have a point in certain elements of this OVA being negligible, it still doesn’t make sense as to how they are recruiting for a drummer only to have one during the ED animation sequence. Connecting with X’s comment, it would’t make sense how she got spoiled early if she were to appear in the anime. After all, there is a reason why she dressed up like that (as a drummer) instead of the normal female uniform. In effect, people who would remember watching this ova would realize that something was definitely off and relating it to her capture arc, it would kill the surprises that should’ve been left untouched.
