Ikoku Meiro ep 3: Understanding the sound of the world

I think this episode did well in fleshing out more of Yune and Claude’s characters to the point that I find these two as representations of how man adapt with their circumstance.

Take Claude for instance, he is curious when it comes to Yune and the culture that she carried from Japan but we never get to see him engage seriously in learning more of her activities and customs. I’m not finding this behavior annoying or offensive but rather, interesting, especially during the part where he was able to draw out inspiration by paying attention to Yune’s detail concerning the meaning of names.

With how programmers gain the idea on how to code just by learning the concept, or how composers find inspiration that make them create masterful songs, or, not going any farther, how anime bloggers notice a certain detail in an episode to rant about, to appreciate, to react. I’m not saying that our attention span is very much similar with Claude since his meter of interest would only go so high when it comes to learning about Yune before it immediately drops down.

Comparing Claude’s habit of gaining interest by having an eye for detail, Yune gains interest by her form of understanding. She’s the type to simply adapt to her environment by silent curiosity and observation. If Claude had to write the kanji down in order to get inspired by it, Yune simply had to observe and in doing so, she learns and becomes more accustomed to her new life in that foreign land.

Do what the Romans do, as the saying goes, and this has been exactly what Yune is doing ever since the first episode. While she may not think out of the box during her learning progress (compared with Claude’s imagination), I’m beginning to see Yune as a very mature individual because of the personality that she’s been sharing to the viewers.

From a perspective, Claude and Yune have different ways of coping and learning but they both have the same curiosity that drives them to continue in their pursuit of understanding each other making this episode pretty much enjoyable.

Is this Alice being voiced by Yuuki Aoi? She sounds very different

I guess Yune will experience Alice first hand next episode. Finally the male/female ratio in the anime will start tilting over to the other side.

Living in a land full of Yune wouldn’t be that bad actually.
